CsathoBeata Csatho

University of Buffalo

Beata's research focuses on understanding the complex dynamics of the Earth's system

and its interaction with the human environment. Pursuing this goal we work in a

multi-disciplinary setting to integrate information across all of the geosciences, including

the solid earth, atmosphere, cryosphere and oceans.

Ross' research evaluates processes at and near marine-ending glaciers in Alaska (A),

Chile (B) and Antarctica (C) to 1) evaluate their stability during global climate change,

2) determine the type of sedimentary record that these glaciers would leave in order to

infer past glacial/climatic condition from older deposits and 3) conduct marine geology

and geophysical studies of Cenozoic sediments on continental shelves to document past

glacial fluctuations through time.

My research uses of geochemical techniques to trace global change and the determination

of the trace element concentrationsin surface and groundwater as well as sediments. A second

area of research has included the determination of trace metals such as lead, copper, zinc,

chromium, and silver in river, lake, and groundwater samples. Our group has also done extensive

work on the geochemistry of suspended matter from high-standing islands.
